The Art of Spooky: Runway Cemetery

The cover for “The Terminal People” is a from a scene not actually in the book; it features a jumbo jet flying over a graveyard located near the airport. The cemetery is actually where Spooky’s mom is buried, but the point was to associate the creepiness of an empty cemetery with an empty airport terminal. This worked better than a concourse with tombstones in it, but I’d still like to render that one day.

The Art of Spooky: Forget Me Nots

This picture was taken inside the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, California, an actual location that inspired the creation and story taking place inside “haunted” Chesterfield Mansion in River City, Alabama, the feature location in The Spooky Chronicles book entitled “Forget Me Nots.” I love the texture on this wall. Each photo was rendered on “the trophy wall” individually before digitally fading them to create the effect.

The Art of Spooky: The Mostly Fake Magic Shop

A key location in The Spooky Chronicles is “Book Sense and Incense,” a new age book shop that caters to eclectic tastes. It comes complete with weird trinkets, various charms, books on the occult, and a shrouded parlor for fortune telling, all the trappings in one convenient location. This was actually my second attempt to render what my imagination had come up with: a hole in the wall into the old world.
